Daily writing prompt
What are your favorite websites?

I honestly wasn’t going to respond to this prompt today because there’s really only two websites that I visit frequently, not including WordPress. Facebook is one of them, but there’s not anything particularly unique or exceptionally interesting about Facebook. The other website is one that I prefer to keep to myself. For many years I have written on my blog here with anonymity and I don’t want to reveal the other website that I frequent because that has been a haven for me since about 2007. I can only say that is a social website of sorts that is focused on all things yarn because knitting and crocheting has been a treasured hobby of mine.

But in reading the posts of other people and what they included as their favorite websites, I have come up with a couple that are meaningful to me.

The first is postsecret.com. I came across the website after seeing their books in a store and buying a couple of them. The whole concept of Post Secret being that people send in anonymous postcards with a secret on them that they have never told anybody. Some of them are humorous, and others are more deep and serious. I’ve never sent a postcard but it is very interesting seeing the secrets that have been sent in. I don’t even know what secret I would send.

Another website that is personal to me is twloha.com. TWLOHA stands for “To Write Love On Her Arms”. Deep in the archive of my website here I wrote a post about this website. The site aims to bring awareness and education to the forefront about mental illness and suicide. The idea of writing love on her arms is that people should show love to themselves and write love on their skin instead of hurting themselves. It is a cause that I endorse whole-heartedly. As someone who went through a very dark period of continually cutting my arms because of the intense depression I was experiencing, I feel compelled to support their mission. It has been over 20 years since I intentionally cut myself and after I discovered this website, I vowed to get the word “love” tattooed on my arm. Two summers ago, I finally did. The picture alongside my posts is that tattoo. I have bought merchandise from their website in order to support their mission, and I encourage anybody reading this to do the same.

There are other websites that I visit from time to time, but I am such a routine devotee to Facebook and the crafting website I mentioned that I don’t often browse other sites. As I am getting more involved in WordPress though, I am finding that I enjoy reading the websites of those that post here and I’ll continue to do that.

Please share your favorite websites that you think I should check out. I am very open-minded and am interested to see and read what’s out there.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
