Given that it’s 7:50 pm on December 31st where I am on the east coast of the United States, I feel compelled to write something about the impending new year. I suppose I should write a reflection on 2024 and my hopes and goals for 2025. I’ve actually done quite a bit of reflecting on life as I lived through last year. Let me say that again… I lived through last year. Honestly, I almost didn’t. As I’ve explained lately, the stress and anxiety of my old job and finishing grad school simultaneously caused such physical and mental strife that the fact that I didn’t end up in the hospital is nothing short of a miracle. But I lived through it. I didn’t have a choice, though my therapist tries to give me credit by saying I did indeed have a choice.
Halfway through the year, after I finally walked away from that job for good, I enjoyed the best summer I’ve ever had. I didn’t have a job and didn’t know what was going to happen with my life next. It felt surreal and a little scary, but I lived through it and enjoyed my time off. I did fun things I’ve been wanting to do and never had time for and just all around enjoyed being a “domestic goddess” as my friend called it.
I am definitely ending the year much better than it started. My new job is not so new anymore and I have finally gotten used to the new routine and schedule.
Going into 2025, I would like to continue in my work routine and enjoy my time at home as I have been doing for the past several months. While I almost hope for a boring year, I do have things I’d like to accomplish. I would like to run 10 miles (at one time, not total). I’d also like to write the book I’m planning, read more books that I can’t seem to stop buying, and do some other miscellaneous fun things that I enjoy. Maybe I’ll get some practical, home improvement type things completed as well.
I want 2025 to be a year that I don’t just live through. I want it to be a year of contentment and peace. Contentment in my new life, because this really does feel like a new life. And overall peace within my mind and my heart. What will a reflection post on December 31st, 2025 say? Hopefully I’ll be able to say that I not only lived through the year, but I thrived all the way through. Bring it on 2025. I’m ready.
