List five things you do for fun.

Over the course of my recent posts, I have referenced these five things at least once. I think it should be pretty obvious at this point. But since writing is one of the things on the list, I’ll go ahead and write the list.

  1. Writing—of all kinds. Journalling, writing letters and note cards for sending through the mail. Written communication is a dying art and I love doing my part to keep it alive.
  2. Knitting/crocheting—all the things! I have made everything out of yarn from the usual blankets, sweaters and hats, to a can of Spam and an alien face hugger. My most recent projects included a Taylor Swift doll and emotional support pickles for my nieces.
  3. Reading—I have a growing pile of books “to be read”. I just finished Atomic Habits by James Clear and am now working my way through my third Stephen King book, The Stand.
  4. Running—though I am currently in my laziness era.
  5. Socializing—online only! My introverted-ness only likes to really get into conversations when I can take time and type out a response. The knitting community I belong to online is the best and I love to spend time chatting with my friends there.

Honorable mention goes to mindlessly scrolling videos on social media. Does anyone actually consider that fun? It’s something that I don’t ever mean to do so much of, but it’s pretty addicting. Especially when I come across the ones that make me laugh to the point of tears when I’m awake at the eleventh hour alone in my living room on a Saturday night.

Boring though they may seem, these are the things that keep me entertained.

I think between physically reading and listening to the audiobook I must have made it through the stand 15 times. Outside of the crochet and knitting I’m with you. I’m pretty much all of your other enjoyments

    1. I haven’t ever done audiobooks. I think reading it now, post-covid is really interesting!

    2. Also, this version is apparently uncut. His preface says there’s a few hundred pages he added back in for this version. I wouldn’t know the difference!

I could tell the difference when I read it the second time

      2. He explained where the cut pages were put back in. I want to say someone’s journey across the country is now longer. I haven’t gotten to that part yet though.

  2. I have The Stand on my to read list but scared to start it based on size lol. I started atomic habits but lost my digital check out. I got it for my wife and will finish it when she is done. I’m currently reading As I Lay Dying. Do you have anything lined up for when you finish The Stand?

    1. The Stand reads pretty fast! And it’s crazy interesting reading it after what we went through with Covid. King’s pandemic version is obviously much more horrifying, lol! I have a lot I want to read next. My husband make weekly/bi weekly trips to Barnes and Noble and I usually end up buying a new book. I’m trying to alternate fiction with non fiction. There are a few autobiographies I might pick from next. I have Anthony Fauci’s autobiography. Might be a good companion to a book about a deadly virus!

  3. Emotional support pickles? Sounds very cute!!! And doomscrolling is fun. Esp. on TikTok, which I haven’t done in ages, I’m addicted to Insta reels/FB reels, Blue Skye reels (they are new!) and well.. now I’m going to get TikTok so I can doomscroll the #horrortoks. Yes. Horrortoks. 😛

    1. I just deleted my TikTok. I did the reels a lot more often. After scrolling those I always forgot that TikTok was there too, lol!

  4. […] this not the same thing as answering the 5 things we like to do for fun? For reference, check out I’m Not as Old as My Hobbies Seem. That lists what I like to do in my leisure time. But I feel compelled to reflect on leisure time […]

She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
