Getting into a made bed with fresh sheets. Did you ever see the movie “City of Angels” with Nicolas Cage? It was from the 90s, arguably his best decade of movies. Meg Ryan was also in it, which I don’t think anybody can argue that her heyday was definitely the 90s. Anyway, there’s a scene at the beginning where Nicolas Cage is walking a little girl down the hallway of a hospital. She had just died and he is taking her to heaven. He asks her, “What was your favorite part?” I can’t remember her exact words but her answer was pajamas with the feet on them. I always thought about that and wondered what my answer to that question would be. My husband said for him, it’s getting his back scratched. It’s something his mom did often as he was growing up. I do it now for him as a way to help him fall asleep.

I think my answer is definitely getting into a bed with fresh sheets. I swear, there is nothing better than being ready for bed and sliding in with the feel of that clean cotton against your skin. If it’s the summer, and I time it right, it’s even better if I had shaved my legs that day. Freshly shaved legs and clean sheets?! Yes, please!

I was thinking of that tonight as my husband and I changed the sheets on our bed. I found that even though it’s Sunday night and the weekend is pretty much over, I am really looking forward to going to bed. Even though that means when I wake up I have to go to work. We not only put clean sheets on, but we switched out the thick fuzzy blanket we were using with a thin, cotton blanket topped with a duvet. We haven’t had the duvet on the bed in a while. But with as cold as it’s been lately and our house being old and drafty, we put it back on. We have quite a collection of duvet covers from Ikea. I’ll have to write about our love affair with Ikea. It’s real and it’s deep. Tonight, I picked a very winter feeling duvet cover and man am I excited to go to bed! Lately, I haven’t been falling asleep right away like I used to. And that’s o.k. I have enjoyed the snuggle time with my best kitty girl Faye until I fall asleep.

Just look at my side of the bed. How could you not be ridiculously happy to crawl in there and snuggle down hard?

Just about everything in this picture is from Ikea. The duvet cover, complete with the pillowcase, the bed frame, and the nightstand. Like I said, total love affair with the place.

  1. I love freshly washed sheets, i pair it with a Lush bath just before getting in it, heightens the absolute sensory brilliance of both.

    1. What is an EAP throw?

  4. I love it but our sheets are the opposite. They are soft and fluffy sherpa. It’s like climbing into a warm cloud when I go to bed. 😊

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
