You know how people online will tell other people to “touch grass”? I haven’t seen it too much, but when I did see it, I had to look it up to see what it meant. From my understanding, it means you’re telling someone to go outside and reconnect with reality. It’s said to keyboard warriors who say crazy and/or stupid kind of argumentative stuff online. I have that expression in my head today. Not because I’ve been arguing with idiots online, though there is plenty to argue about, just pick anything from the news in the U.S. since January 20th. I’m thinking of it because it’s 78 degrees outside right now. On the fourth day of February. Tomorrow at this time, it’s supposed to be 40 something. Then back to 70s the day after. Such is life in the south in the winter.
But I’m not complaining. This is the perfect weather for sitting under the magnolia tree in the backyard with a book. So that’s what I’m doing. And God it feels good! It has made me happy today. I wasn’t unhappy yesterday. But something about knowing I could come home and do this made me kind of giddy. Score one for a good mental health day!
So here I sit, with my book and my dogs, enjoying this preview of spring. If you live somewhere warm right now, I encourage you to do the same. Go outside and touch grass.
