How has technology changed your job?

When my job was teaching, I saw a huge change in what I did as a teacher because of technology. My first classroom had two desktop computers with internet cables plugged into the wall. There was also an overhead projector for, well, projecting things on a screen. After Covid came about and ‘remote learning’ became the norm, my last classroom ended up with wi-fi to give internet access to the Chromebooks that each student had at their desk. A laptop and mounted projector displayed anything I wanted on a SmartBoard. Google Classroom was how I shared information about assignments with the students instead of making copies to hand out to them. The technology changes in that career were very easy to see. I could go on and reflect how that transition took place, but that’s not important. Suffice to say, it happened fast!

In my job now, I don’t know how technology has changed it. I’ve only been working in this new environment for seven months. What I’m using now is the same as what I was trained on back in August. I will say, however, that this job is the first one I’ve had where I have a computer with two monitors. Um, where has that feature been my entire life? Obviously not invented for a good portion of my life, but seriously, dueling monitors is a game changer! Definitely makes me more efficient at my job!

Technology is perpetually changing. With the advent of AI, that is going to do a lot to change some jobs. Even some of the things I do can be helped by using AI. So if I stick around there long enough, I’m sure I could update this post in a few years with a substantial summary of what has changed. In the meantime, I’ll just continue to marvel over my side-by-side computer monitors.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
