If you could have something named after you, what would it be?

Several things are running through my mind about this. Some of those thoughts are a school. I was an educator for so long. Maybe an award or a scholarship? My father-in-law was a very well respected and revered teacher at the other Catholic school in our city. When he passed away I believe there was a scholarship set up in his memory. Or maybe a building or street or something in my community that is named after me because of the advocacy and awareness I brought to mental health issues.

Honestly, I’d be happy with a book named after me. Either a book that someone writes about me or the book that I’m trying to write about myself.

But you know, now that I really think about this, except for the book I’m writing that tells my own story, I really don’t want anything named after me. I don’t want to be famous. I don’t like being the center of attention. I’d like to do the good things that would get something named after me, but let’s not make a big deal about it. Let the good work speak for itself.

As an introvert, having the spotlight on me is just so uncomfortable. I didn’t even smile that much and enjoy the attention when I was walking down the aisle at my own wedding! And it was a very small wedding too! Only about 20 people there.

One final thought I had as I was thinking about this is that maybe something yarn related would be fun. While I am majorly into writing right now, I am still a knitter/crocheter at heart. With that said, I have quite a large yarn stash and it mainly contains yarn of bright, happy colors. So maybe a yarn company could name a yarn color after me? That would be pretty cool. There’s an indie dyer that I hard-core fan girl over. Haute Knit Yarn is her name. A few years ago, she dyed a series of yarn whose colors were inspired by character names in some of her favorite t.v. shows. This colorway, for example, is called “Monica’s Purple Place” because it’s purple like Monica Gellar’s apartment was in “Friends”.

My favorite color is orange, and my favorite color combination is orange and pink because those were my wedding colors:

It would be neat if there was a yarn with those colors and it was named something like “Sarah’s Wedding Bouquet” or “Sarah’s Happy Colors”. I don’t know but I would definitely buy multiple skeins of that color.

Having a yarn named after me wouldn’t demand attention like a building or street bearing my name. People wouldn’t even really need to know who I am. They would just enjoy the awesome yarn color.

Yeah, that’s what I’m going with. If anything had to be named after me, I’d like it to be yarn. I can enjoy the notoriety from that in the privacy of my own home. Nothing big and public that would make me cringe.

  1. There is a “Tremaine” Street near Windermere/Orlando, FL. My cousins take a picture of it every time they visit and send it to me. LOL. I’ve seen it myself and got a little giddy because there’s never anything with my name on it, but that street is there. 😊 I didn’t take a picture by it, which I should have done. LOL!

    1. That’s awesome! You definitely have a name that doesn’t show up on souvenir keychains at the beach! Lol! I don’t know why, but that reminds me of the two songs from the 80s that have my name.

  2. The yarn is a great idea.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
