What are your favorite brands and why?
I’m a little late with my response today and I will admit to reading other people’s answers before I wrote this, which I really don’t like to do. But I think we’re all on a very similar page today with this one.
Favorite brands are kind of arbitrary. I don’t have a deep loyalty to any one brand. I first thought about this amazing pair of running shoes I had several years ago when I was training for a half marathon. There’s a post somewhere here about them in fact. They were a pair of Hoka Arahi One One. Someone in the local running club made fun of them and called them moon shoes. Granted, they had really thick soles but that’s what made them good shoes! They were amazing and I wore them out with all of my training. But when it was time to buy a new pair, I bought Brooks instead. Wanted to try something else. I will always think highly of Hoka, but there are so many other brands of good shoes out there.
Honestly, this would be a very long, rambling post if I listed my favorite brands. There are so many different categories I could discuss. Speaking of shoes, I’m always fond of Skechers. What about book bags? A fellow blogger mentioned Jansport. I had a Jansport book bag in middle school. Until the zipper broke and the strap tore. Then I got an L.L. Bean book bag like everybody else at school had and I loved that thing! Stood up to the wear and tear of everything I had to carry around in high school. Until I discovered my boy kitty, Joey, was mature enough to be neutered when he sprayed it. Could never get that smell out! I did get an exact replica of that bag though. It’s a good brand!
So many other things I could discuss. Like, don’t buy a Kia. I will break out my soap box and climb on to tell anybody who asks why they shouldn’t buy a Kia.
I think it all comes down to experience and preference. I was talking with that same blogger about mayonnaise brands. I have my favorite brands and when I was telling my husband about the conversation, he was telling me why he likes the brand I like over what his mom always bought. We like the same brand, but for different reasons.
Honestly, I don’t even think brands really matter. We like what we like and will support a product or company because of that. Some people don’t support certain companies/brands because of their political views and what kind of organizations they support. That’s their right. Companies spend big bucks researching what consumers like and what they’re willing to spend money on. It’s a whole thing. We, as consumers, definitely reap the benefits from their research. When I was a teenager, I absolutely switched shampoos to Herbal Essences because of those commercials. If you remember the 90s, you know the commercials I’m talking about.
Advertising, too, says a lot about what brands I’m likely to try. When I was trying to decide on a car insurance to switch to, I most certainly picked Progressive because I thought the Flo commercials were adorable.
I feel more rambling thoughts coming on as I think more and more about brands I like. I was about to launch into why Mt. Olive pickles are the best. Mt. Olive, North Carolina is about an hour from where I live so our stores are full of their products. I love them so much that I dragged my husband to Mt. Olive on New Year’s Eve a couple years ago so we could finally see the pickle drop into the bucket at “midnight”—put in quotation marks because they do the countdown and pickle drop at 7 pm. They shoot off fireworks, and then hand everybody a giant free pickle as we leave and walk back to our cars to go home.
Again, brands are arbitrary. We like what we like, and tend to buy what we like. It’s as simple as that. Except for Kia. Don’t buy a Kia!
