What time do you go to bed and wake up currently?
I taught an intro to crocheting class this week to a group of 10-15 year olds. From talking to them for the past four days and hearing about their own personal bedtimes, I might as well be 100 years old with the time I go to bed and wake up. Long gone are the days where I stay up well past midnight and sleep until the p.m. comes around again the next day.
During the work week, I’m usually in bed by 10, with my actual eyes closed no later than 11:30. I usually lay in bed and read, or truthfully, scroll videos on my phone before I actually go to sleep. For work, my alarm goes off at 6:50. Any earlier than that and I won’t be able to get into the bathroom because my husband is already in there getting ready for work. We are a one bathroom household. And we are not the kind of couple that co-exist in the bathroom at the same time. We still appreciate our privacy when it comes to those functions.
If it’s a weekend, I do stay up later. But I always set my alarm for 9:00 or so because I don’t want to sleep too long the next morning. I am very much a “don’t want to waste the day” kind of person. If it’s a Saturday, I set my alarm for 8:00 because my knit group that meets at Panera generally meets at 9:00. Though I haven’t gone lately in favor of sleeping a little longer. There have been busy weeks at work this summer and I have been extra exhausted. I am actually sleeping through the night most of the time. Prior to the start of this busy period, I was waking up several times and having trouble going back to sleep, despite a nightly pill that I take that is specifically for sleep. Not so much now.
I am looking forward to the end of this summer program when things will slow down again and I won’t be as tired. Prior to this I enjoyed staying up a little later every day and writing before I went to bed. I had just started that routine. Now, I only have enough energy to read what someone else has written. Which is fine by me.
Actually, all of this is fine. Sleep is just another one of those things that I do when I need to. Some weekends I sleep longer than other weekends. And some weeknights I go to bed earlier than other nights. I just need more of it sometimes. Who am I to argue with my own body?
