What’s your favorite recipe?

There are so many recipes available out there. Believe me, I know. My husband has 72% of the world’s recipes stored on these shelves in the hallway next to our kitchen. He’s got books with cocktail recipes and beer recipes, along with food of all types. Not pictured is his binder of recipes he’s pulled from the internet of the dishes he makes for Thanksgiving every year.

This isn’t even all of them. Currently, there are SO many more crammed onto these shelves every which way. There is a stack of books in our dining room that is awaiting room on the shelves. I am in no way criticizing though. I have just as many books (not cooking) and I absolutely enjoy what he makes from the recipes within these pages.

However, having said that and having shown you his cookbook collection, my favorite recipe is not in one of these. It’s not something that Julia Child came up with or Rick Bayless, Michael Symon, or even something my husband created on his own.

My favorite recipe is the one I created for a good life. This recipe is one that can easily be tweaked and modified to fit your preferences. But here’s what works for me:

Ingredients:

  • 2 rescue dogs (Can substitute puppies from a reputable breeder. However, puppies might delay the “good” part of your life as they take a while to be trained).
  • 2 cats (The cats are optional. As are the dogs. Quantities can be adjusted to fit the space of your home).
  • 1 family home (Can be any style of home, apartment, condo, whatever suits your taste and budget).
  • 1 fenced-in backyard with a Magnolia tree (Can be any tree that provides shade. A table with a large umbrella or canopy will also work).
  • 1 high-speed internet connection
  • 1 television (Quantity is optional).
  • Access to music
  • 1 hobby (Quantity can be increased to whatever number you feel satisfied with).
  • 1 car (Or other means of reliable transportation)
  • 1 job with low stress
  • 1 or 2 pieces of comfortable living room furniture
  • 1 person to share your life with (optional—some people enjoy living the single/solo life. Quantity can also be adjusted depending on number of children in the family or other relatives living in the home).
  • Good food (Depending on your preference)

Step 1: Set up your family home by having the high-speed internet installed.

Step 2: Arrange the comfortable living room furniture in a way that will make it easy for you and your 1 person (or people) to utilize the high-speed internet to stream shows and movies and watch them on the t.v.

Step 3: Set up your home so that the cats and dogs will be able to co-exist peacefully. Baby gates may need to be purchased to keep them separated.

Step 4: Each day, combine the following ingredients to enjoy—good food, access to music, backyard with a Magnolia tree, hobby, car. *Some days may require the job with low stress. However, repeat step 4 as often as necessary to ensure the job remains low stress and does not interfere with the overall good life recipe.

Picture proof of this recipe in action:

And that’s my favorite recipe. It has served me well lately.

Wait! Except for this one:

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever!

Seriously, these are the best chocolate chip cookies you will ever eat in your entire life! I made them for the auto shop who helped me with my car last summer. Then I made them for my department for Christmas and they raved about them and one lady asked for the recipe. Go now, make these cookies. You will thank me later.

  1. Love your take on this today!!!

    1. Thank you! In my knitting group there’s a thread where we swap but with every offer you post, you have to include a recipe. I have often come up with random “recipes” like that in the absence of one for actual food! Lol!

  2. […] by my previous post today, Recipe for Life, I’ve decided to add on to the original “recipe” I shared. I thought of some […]
