How are you feeling right now?
This is a very appropriate question for my current situation. And by situation, I mean sitting up cross legged in a very fluffy bed with furry pink pillows and velvet blankets. My littlest niece has camped out with her big sister so I could have her room while I’m here in Chicago(ish) visiting them this weekend. This is the first time I’ve been to this area. My sister lives in a suburb just outside of Chicago and there’s a lot planned for this weekend.
We’ll be going to a local festival on Saturday, followed by a trip to the city so I can experience just a tiny bit of Chicago. I have convinced her that we need more time in the city other than just the few hours she had originally planned for late Saturday afternoon. According to the people I conversed with on Threads, I will need multiple trips up here in order to really experience all that Chicago has to offer. For my first taste of the city, my goal is to find a hot dog vendor and eat an authentic Chicago-style hotdog, you know, in the actual city of Chicago. My husband and I are on a fancy hot dog kick and this is almost a bucket-list kind of thing.
Before all of that happens on Saturday, I am going to spend the day with my two nieces today. Just us three. I’m taking the youngest one to the store so I can buy her crocheting supplies. This little girl has been waiting very patiently for her Aunt Sarah to teach her how to crochet. Now that I’m here and have the time, we’re going to do it. I’ll take them to lunch and whatever else they want while we wait for their mom to get off of work and our other sister to arrive from Cleveland. For lunch, I’ll take them to a restaurant that’s near their house that was highly recommended by the Chicago-ans from Threads and my sister. I’ll get one of those Italian beef sandwiches that an overwhelming number of people said I should try as it is also truly authentic to Chicago. I’ll fly home early on Monday morning and do my best to recover from all the fun before going back to work on Tuesday.
With all of that said, how am I feeling right now? Technically, I am still pretty tired. After delayed flights, I didn’t actually land in Chicago until after midnight. Which, since I was flying from the east coast, was actually after 1 a.m. according to my internal clock. I was told to sleep in today, especially since my nieces would be doing that, but I’ve always had trouble sleeping very long when I’m traveling. So, I’m tired. And cold actually. My sister left the windows open because the temperature dropped to the 50s last night. This is truly going to be summer’s last hurrah here for them this weekend.
But I’m also excited about all of the adventures coming up over these next few days. New York City is a bucket list trip for me and so I’ve never really considered Chicago as someplace equally awesome to visit. That is until my sister moved so close to it and I have the opportunity to visit easily. As it is, when I was walking down the terminal after my plane landed, I recognized the ceiling as being the same as from the Home Alone movies. Being the movie fan that I am, I was excited to see that.

So, because I’m cold and still tired right now, I’m going to try to go back to sleep so I can be well rested for the adventures ahead.
