As I continue my quest to deviate from the daily prompt which seems to have begun a cycle of just repeating old prompts, here is my thought for Monday. Quotes from music and movies that stand out in my mind.

This week’s entry is from the last song I added to my “inspirational playlist”, Taylor Swift’s “Opalite”.

When I am in my car listening to this playlist, every time a lyric comes up that resonates with me, or is basically the reason I added it to this particular playlist, I have a habit of pointing to my radio. So if you ever pass a woman who appears to be screaming and pointing at her radio, that’s me and that’s why.

The line from the song that stands out the most to me is:

“But failure brings you freedom”

The whole song is great and I love it. But that line gets me every time. The song is about getting through your struggles and being happier on the other side of them.

For me, that “failure” is what brought me the freedom to be happy. To be fair, I didn’t really fail at anything. Some could say I failed at being a principal. Maybe my “mentor” saw me as a failure because I quit. Still finished my masters degree successfully and I survived that year as a principal. But all I failed at was living up to her expectations. And that’s damn fine with me! That “failure” was me realizing that I didn’t want what she wanted for me and leaving before she could do anymore damage to me.

That failure brought me my freedom and healing and happiness and a new start and all the other things good in my life now.

I’m good with that.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
