I’m a generally creative person. I knit and crochet. I’m crafty in other ways and other mediums too.
But I’m also creative, I believe, in my writing and my husband just enabled me to take my creativity to a whole new level.
With my desire to be a published writer one day, I have been working on a book (not consistently) and recording videos that relate to my overall message–ending the stigma around mental illness (also not consistently). But I have plans and notes and ideas (remember my new notebook where I wrote it all down?). Because I want to get super serious about writing and building my platform, I really need the tools to do it. I have a laptop, but it’s from 2020. I originally bought it to use in my classroom when there were students at home that joined the class virtually during Covid. Our outdated school laptops just weren’t cutting it. The computer was great back then and it’s still good now. But it lags. Especially when I’m here on WordPress. What appears on the screen doesn’t sync up with what I’m typing as I’m typing it. Very annoying. I also have an ipad with a keyboard case. That’s good because I can access my social media apps on it that I use on my phone. But that ipad is even older than my laptop I believe. It doesn’t sync well with my phone as far as the apps go. If I’m going to make videos, I’d like to be able to have a reliable device for editing and doing all the things to make them the best they can be.
So, when my husband asked me what I wanted “Santa” to bring me this year, I initially asked for a MacBook Pro. I’ve never had an Apple computer, but how perfect would it be to sync with my phone to do all the social media and writing things I want to do? Not long after I told my husband this, I rescinded my request. They are stupid expensive! Even ones that are a little older and are refurbished. So I told him a new ipad would be great instead.
Fast forward to this morning, Christmas morning. My husband and I don’t have kids, but we do our own little Christmas morning. He gets up first and puts my presents under the tree, and then I get up and put his under the tree while he’s outside with the dogs. Then we sit on the floor in front of the tree and open our gifts to each other. And do you know, this man…this man who has supported me in every single thing I have ever wanted to do…bought me a brand new MacBook Pro?! Not just a MacBook, but one that has video editing programs on it already AND a license for Microsoft Office AND an adapter and mouse and case…basically all the things to go with it. So strong is his support of my desire to be a published writer and have a strong platform supporting mental health awareness. Secretly, or, not so secretly, he jokes that of course he wants me to be a successful writer and social media influencer…he wants to retire early after all! I’m happy to oblige! And these tools that he gifted me are just what I need to reach my full creative potential. He’s done this before, by the way,… They took me seriously.
So now, I really don’t have any other excuse not to make significant progress on my book. This new computer is amazingly fast and efficient with so much potential. I am incredibly eager to get started. I feel some New Year’s resolutions related to writing coming on…
