Music/Movie Monday

I didn’t drive to Ikea today. Josh had a good point. I could go and pick up all the new shelves we’re getting for our creative space, but where would we put those big, honkin’ boxes while we fix up the room? We are going all out with this, to include painting the walls, which are in desperate need of some TLC. The walls have to come first before the new shelves.

So, I didn’t get my one woman traveling concert today. What I did get though, is a jam session in the back of my house as I began clearing things out of the room so we can paint later this week. A Bose portable speaker can get just as loud and powerful as my car speakers. I had the curtains open so I’m hoping my Italian neighbor did not spy my cringey dance along to the song, Tootsee Roll.

If he did happen to see that, here’s what he didn’t see. My heart bursting wide open listening to Florence & the Machine for the first time. When I was listening to all of Taylor Swift’s discography for the first time a few months ago, this artist was recommended to me. There are a couple of her songs that sounded familiar, like they were used in movies or shows that I had seen. Quite possibly, I had heard them in videos online, as that seems to be the norm now. So I added a few of those familiar songs to my “random awesomeness” playlist. One in particular though, upon really listening to the words of it, went straight to my “inspirational” list.

And that is, “Shake It Out”.

A song about leaving your past behind. All the regrets, all the sadness, all the mistakes, all the problems.

Then there’s the song “Dog Days Are Over”:

This one is all about finally being happy and running towards it. The hard, difficult days are over and now it’s time to run towards happiness.

My most played song for the past two years on Apple Music was “Roar” by Katy Perry. That was the song that spoke to the part of my soul that needed motivation to start speaking up for myself. I think I’ve proved that I can do that now.

I feel like these two new-to-me songs are going to be played quite heavily in 2026. I’m still going to therapy. In fact, I have an appointment tomorrow. But I have healed so much from my past this year, that I think that 2026 is going to have a different focus. Running towards that happiness with this new person I’ve become. The dog days are indeed over. Here’s to all the good that lies ahead.

  1. Rocking around the house to music is the best thing in the world. And I can’t wait to see the room when it is finished.

    1. It really is! I’m excited to see it too! If we ever settle on a paint color, lol!

  2. That’s the hardest part

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
