I’m currently reading a book that I wanted to read last October.
Remember when I talked about it in this post? Where Books and Movies Meet It’s the book Remain written by Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan. It came out in October and I pre-ordered it because Josh and I are huge M. Night Shyamalan fans and I figured this wouldn’t be a typical Nicholas Sparks book. I read exactly two of his books and refused to read anymore given the amount of crying I did at the end of each one. Having said that, I figured this book was safe because it’s advertised as a “supernatural love story”, meaning one of the main characters is already dead. How sad can the ending be?
I started reading it just before the winter weather started over the weekend and I can kind of see how this will be an emotional ending. Maybe not sad, but it’s going to be emotional I think. I’m halfway through it already and I kind of just want to be done with it. It’s been very predictable so far and now the only question is, how will it end? There’s a mystery element to it and I don’t know which of the three possible “conclusions” it’s going to be yet.
There’s another book I’d like to read. I have it and I was actually going to read this one first, but it’s on a shelf all wrapped up in plastic in the room of our house that we still need to paint. So I couldn’t really grab it off the shelf very easily. My secretary at work wants to read it too, it’s Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins. It’s another Hunger Games prequel. This time it’s Haymitch’s origin story. There’s a movie version of it coming out later this year. Come to think of it, there’s actually a movie version of Remain coming out too.
Jake Gyllenhaal will play the main character and now that I know that, it kind of takes away from the reading experience. I was absolutely not picturing Jake Gyllenhaal as I was reading. I don’t know that I will now or that I could even see him in this role.
I’ll still finish the book though. I very rarely DNF books. I tend to power through. I am 100% sure though that I will read the other book after this one. And I am almost 100% sure I really won’t read another Nicholas Sparks book after this. I’m just not all that impressed by this book. I can definitely see the M. Night Shyamalan influence. I mean, SO obvious. And it’s certainly a unique story, I’ll give him that. I guess a “supernatural love story” really is a pretty accurate description.
I’ll have to report back when I actually finish it. Maybe the ending will be good. Maybe.
