Daily writing prompt
How can you build a regular fitness routine?

Hold on, WordPress…where did the inspiration for this prompt come from? Have you been stalking my social media accounts? Did you see my post yesterday where I bragged about having gotten up early to go running for five days in a row?

Regardless of where you got it, good job on the timing with this one.

Today was day 6 of getting up early to go running. I’m really enjoying it! I knew I would, I’ve always loved running. I’m also seeing small improvements even after only less than a week of getting back out there. My legs, at the very least, have stopped hurting. I can take the three stairs up to my front door with normal steps, not like my mother-in-law with her bad knees who had to put both feet on a step before moving to the next one. My shins were the last part of my legs to give up the pain.

While I am indeed building (or rebuilding) my fitness routine and making it a regular part of my life again, I can’t honestly tell you “how” I’m doing it. I’m just…doing it. Nike was onto something with their “Just do it.” slogan. Because that’s what I did. I’ve been thinking about running again for a while and last week I decided I’d start it up again. So, I set my alarm, actually got out of bed, and went running. Making it a regular part of my daily routine just takes some visualization. When the alarm goes off in the morning and all I want to do is go back to sleep, I visualize myself out on the road running the route I created around my neighborhood. Imagining myself running helps me get out of bed and dressed so I can get out there and actually run. It might not work for everybody, but it definitely works for me!

  1. Keep going, that’s great!!!!

  2. Our phones should be called nosy nellies instead of smart phones. I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory, but our phones are listening to what we say, watching what we type, where we search. It’s no wonder that the phone started trying to encroach on you. I hate it when that happens… hugs

    1. I fully believe that they do! There are too many coincidences for it to not be true.

  3. Dear friend, such a real and motivating read — sometimes building a fitness routine really does start with simply showing up for yourself one day at a time.

    1. Absolutely! One day at a time is exactly right! Thank you for reading.

  4. The “Just Do It” slogan perfectly captures my internal battle whenever I ask myself, “Do I really have to?” 😂

    1. Exactly! It’s perfect for any situation!

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
