Today’s screenshot was saved on May 24, 2023. As I recall, I had just finished my first year of grad school and my last year as a teacher. It’s curious to me why I saved this. It’s possible that after a year of grad school I still wasn’t sure about wanting to become a principal. Or perhaps I was committed to becoming one but was scared of what it would be like. I may have been questioning if I could actually do it.

Reflecting on that time when this was saved makes this quote that much more poignant now. I learned the lessons, I met the people, and I had the experiences I needed to have. And now I’m done with all of that. I am, however, working on the “remember that” part. What I remember about the lessons, the people, and the experiences is fueling my inspiration for the writing and messages I’m putting out now on social media. Even more than that, it’s fueling the person I am now. The person who speaks her mind and doesn’t shut up about it. The person who covered her arms in tattoos simply because she likes them. And most importantly, the person who is no longer afraid of being herself. This is where I’m supposed to be.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
