I have a funny one for you all today. This was saved in December of 2023 when I was desperately trying to hang on to humor and anything good during the year of being a principal.

This one stuck out to me today though because my team at work is fond of “team building” activities during each weekly team meeting. Last week we had to each say a “rose and a thorn”. Bascially, something good that has recently been going on with us and one thing that hasn’t been going well. I opted to say the good thing was I had started running again and the bad thing was that my legs were super sore because of it. If I didn’t like my coworkers so much I would have come up with something weird. As it is I shouldn’t have said anything about running. I still run, but not getting up at 6 am and going outside to do it like I was. I recently joined Planet Fitness so I can run on the treadmill later in the day without having to deal with the afternoon heat. But since I told everybody that I’m running now, I feel like I’m obligated to keep with it and sign up for a race or something. My supervisor is determined to cheer from the sidelines if I do. One of my other coworkers asked me the other day if I was still running. The questions have already started. So I really should have just kept that one to myself. Oh well. Like I said, they do team building activities every week. I’m sure there will be other opportunities in the future to make it weird.

  1. Team building . . . blessing and a curse.

    1. Yep…I definitely agree!

  2. Uggghhh….I hate those

  3. This is so funny! 😆 it’s as if without meaning to they’re keeping you accountable on the running activity with all the questions.
I’ve had this happen as well and know I feel like I have to keep it up which is good 😂

    1. It is definitely one of the things motivating me to keep going!

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
