Given that I try to keep politics out of my posts, this question is hard to answer. I believe with my whole heart that there is a lot of horrible things happening in the world right now with a lot of it happening in the United States. I don’t think what’s happening in our country now can last forever. We’re either going to crumble into a dystopian society and have to deal with that, or there will be significant recovery and growth from this downward spiral we’re currently on. In either scenario, I think it’s going to take a really long time to get there. Obviously, I hope that things improve. And that’s what I would like to see. This current regime to end and healing for our country. But I think the damage is so extensive that I may not see a total recovery in my lifetime. It’s sort of like the effects of the Covid pandemic. They are going to linger well into the future. It’s going to be a while before the repercussions of that are no longer felt.
I don’t think world peace is something that is ever going to happen. But I hope in the future, there is at the very least, a little more harmony and acceptance and tolerance for all people. I’d like racism and homophobia to disappear. Given the hill I’m willing to die on, I’d also like the mental health stigma to completely end. I think we’re on the right path for that. Young people today are talking about mental health a lot more. I won’t use the term “woke” to describe today’s youth, but they are certainly not afraid to speak out and show their support for their LGBTQ+ friends and family, as well as speaking out about other injustices and things that frankly, the older generations have been way too quiet about.
To quote “Hamilton” yet again, “I may not live to see our glory, but I’ll gladly join the fight.” So while the effects of these young people fighting for what’s right and just won’t necessarily be felt in my lifetime, I don’t think, I will absolutely join them in their fight to be heard. It’s why I make videos on social media about mental health and recently, about Pride Month. I’ve gotten some hateful comments on my Pride Month post, which goes to show, we have a long way to go. The world can absolutely be a better place. But we can’t let up on fighting to make it that way.
