“Something Good” Sunday
This week went by fast. It’s ending on a sad note, in that time is up for my kitty Faye. The signs are there. It’s time for me to make the call to the vet tomorrow to make the appointment to say goodbye to my girl. But, to keep my mind off of the sadness, I have a new project that I’m super excited about.
Have you seen the latest porch goose trend? Where people put a goose on their porch and dress it up in seasonal attire? Oh it’s a thing! The goose is about 2-3 feet tall. Well, now there is such a thing as a desk goose.
I know about these desk geese because my supervisor and someone else in our office has one. Not only does my supervisor have one, she has a wardrobe for it. Currently, her goose is wearing a raincoat and hat. There’s a Santa suit for Christmas and other attire. She and the other desk goose owner know that I am a knitter/crocheter. I know they are anticipating me creating something for the goose. And believe me, I fully intend to. But I have been struggling to think of what to make. She already has several seasonal outfits for the little guy (gal?). But then, inspiration struck!
My supervisor is a die hard fan of Harry Styles. She asked us to respect her privacy during this difficult time when it was announced that he may have gotten engaged. Last week during a team meeting, one of our colleagues proclaimed that he felt old because he was watching the American Music Awards and his daughter was making fun of him because he didn’t know the difference between Harry Styles and Timothy Chalamet. My supervisor consoled him by saying she can provide a power point for him to explain the difference. The love for Harry Styles is deep and it’s real for her.
So, I decided that I would find a picture of Harry’s most iconic outfit and replicate it in yarn. What I quickly discovered is that there is not just one outift that defines Harry’s style…no pun intended, I can’t help that the dude’s last name is Styles. Anyway, I perused multiple lists of his top looks on multiple websites and narrowed down the list to 4 outfits that I think I can do justice to. I will have to make these dresses since the goose she has is the one in the picture up above. There are no separate legs, they’re molded onto a base. But what I’m going to do, is put the outfit in a little garment bag–ziploc bag– and attach a laminated copy of the inspiration picture.
Here’s what I’m going with:
I have a massive collection of fingering weight sock yarn wound into mini-skeins. This yarn is thinner than most yarn, so it’s perfect for making something small. I have fun fur yarn, sparkly yarn, and when it’s delivered on Tuesday, I’ll have a pack of Christmas tree tinsel that I’ll use for the silver jumpsuit.
To get the sizing right, I found the exact goose my supervisor has and ordered my own from Amazon. He will serve as my model for these outfits. Today, I plan to organize my supplies. I’m going to print these inspiration pictures and put them into a ziploc bag with the coordinating yarn that I plan to use. The organization nerd that lives in me is excited about that part. Once I get started, this won’t take me long to finish. I hope she won’t think it’s weird that I give her a gift outside of Christmas or her birthday, which I think is in February. I could always make it a “thank you for being an awesome boss” kind of gift. My 90-day probationary period will be up soon, so maybe this can go along with that. A way to say thank you for picking me and welcoming me.
I’m very excited about this. It’s giving me something to focus on while I do my best to mentally prepare for bidding adieu to my best girl, Faye. I’ll be sure to share updates as the creative crafting progresses.
