What’s a cultural tradition from another country that you wish existed in yours?

It’s only June. Summer hasn’t even officially started yet and here I am longing for autumn. For some reason, I really wish it was October already. I want it to be spooky season again. With the pumpkins on the porch and the leaves falling and the evenings being cool and breezy. Scary movies on tv, or Hocus Pocus, which is less scary and more fun Halloween nostalgia. Of course, I am still looking forward to everything happening this summer.

I even kind of wish it was the holiday season in general. Though I am not always a fan of the Christmas season starting. There’s a LOT of stuff to drag out of the attic that gets put out then. SO many decorations! Which, to be honest, are lovely and make me nostalgic for Christmases of the past. So while I don’t necessarily like decorating, I like the house being decorated.

Having said that, I think I’d like to experience some of the Christmas traditions in other cultures here in the United States. In the absence of doing a little research and finding out how other cultures celebrate Christmas and what their traditions are like, I will say that I know they do things differently. Some, very similar, but others are just different and interesting. I’m basing that statement on the many years I would have my students do a “Christmas Around the World” project in December. They learned how people in other countries celebrate and I think it would be fun to incorporate some of those traditions here. The closest we came was back in 2023 when Josh made Yorkshire pudding as part of our Christmas dinner.

I never knew it wasn’t an actual pudding, but more of a bread-type dish.

Maybe this year I’ll do some research and see what those other Christmas traditions actually are and pick one to incorporate into our own celebration. It could be fun. And let’s be honest, that season will be here a lot faster than we realize. The year is already half over as it is. So, let me go ahead and say…Merry Christmas!

  1. Lol, once again thinking alike 🎄

    1. Quite a coincidence then given your restriction on when and when not to talk about the holidays, lol!

      1. Yeah, you know I won’t even think about the holidays until Thanksgiving, but it spoke to me today.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
