Oh how I became giddy when I read this prompt today! Any pet parent is going to be happy to share a hundred pictures with you and talk to you at length about their pet. I’m sure I actually do have a hundred pictures, but I can’t narrow them down to just one. I have four pictures of Nugget that perfectly capture how unique she is.
This is actually good timing for me to talk about Nugget. Since I had to put Faye down back in June, Nugget has stepped up her game and has become my new kitty bestie. I still can’t pet her any time I want, as evidenced by the claw mark across the side of my hand that she put there this morning when I thought she wanted to snuggle. She may have indeed wanted to snuggle, but she didn’t want to be touched. At night it’s different. She snuggles up in my armpit just like Faye used to. I think Faye may have left her instructions before she departed our company. Either that, or Nugget has just been (im)patiently waiting for her turn to snuggle with me since she never got that chance because Faye was always there first.
Either way, Nugget is thriving as an only kitty. Last weekend, I toyed with the idea of opening the baby gates so that she and the dogs could be integrated. It worked well. Everybody was on their best behavior and there were no issues. But I haven’t opened them since. I think she appreciates having her own space without canine intruders.
So, first picture, the classic Nugget picture that I share online for a plethora of reasons. Sometimes this picture perfectly encapsulates my own mood some days.

She was mad that Faye had gone to the vet. Nugget is so vicious at the vet that even sedating her with medicine ahead of time isn’t enough. The vet has to knock her completely unconscious to be able to do anything to her, even for something as simple as a rabies shot. So even if Faye went to the vet, Nugget could smell the office on her and react accordingly.
Nugget is also a connoisseur of fresh water. I bought her a motion-activated fountain that pumps out filtered water, but she only drinks from it if she can’t get water from the bathroom. She relies on us to turn the sink on to just the right amount of pressure so she can drink from the stream. She also jumps into the tub after we get out of the shower so she can drink the drips coming out of the faucet. Or sometimes, she’ll sit on the edge of the tub and lick the moisture off the curtain. And, when all else fails, she does this:

Also, since she’s a fan of the bathroom, this picture is one of my favorites:

Look, I can go on all day with pictures of Nugget and stories about what a unique kitty she is. She does, after all, have her own Facebook page. When I got her, my students at the time fell in love with her and encouraged me to set up a page just for her. It’s called “On Nugget’s Terms” because everything really is on her terms. But then again, she’s partially a diva, so it tracks:
