What’s the best thing you’ve ever found randomly on the street?
I’m going to heavily modify this question today because I don’t think I’ve ever found anything very interesting on the street in my entire life. Seriously. All the good stuff is either picked up before I get to it or people just don’t drop good things. So, instead of street finds, I’m going to share the best thing I have found at Dollar Tree. This was sort of random. I saw somebody post about it, which caused me to immediately rush to the Dollar Tree just up the road from my house before they could sell out. I did get there just in time.
Today is September 1st. Nothing spectacular about this date other than a new month has started. However, this year, I am declaring today the start of spooky season in my house. Usually, Josh and I are holiday purists. Halloween starts on October 1st. Thanksgiving and all the “grateful” decorations come out on November 1st and Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. But not this year. I have wanted it to be Halloween SO badly since like, April. I don’t know why.
Since the world is on fire right now and we could all use some fun and whimsy AND because two Saturdays ago, Josh went for his usual Saturday morning Starbucks run and said “F— it, I’m getting a pumpkin spice latte”, to which I replied, “Good. Then I’m putting up the Halloween stuff in September.” He said o.k. So, September 1st, aka today, I am coming home from work, going up into the attic and pulling out the Halloween decorations and scattering them around the house. That, by the way, will include Steve, my skull tree topper who my new supervisor absolutely insists has to come live in our office area.
The decorations will also include my Dollar Tree “finds”. I don’t have a picture of my actual ones, but these were pulled from the internet. Just look at them. How could I not rush to the store and grab a disco ghost and pumpkin???
Halloween can’t possibly be any more fun and whimsical than these two. I know exactly where they’re going too. They will NOT go on the built-in wall shelves in our dining room where I will only see them when I’m sitting down at the table. We rarely eat in there anyway. These babies are going on the mantel above our fireplace and below our t.v. Prime position for enjoying.
In case you’re secretly judging my early decorating, just know, even the ghosts in my house are happy it’s spooky season. Last night, Josh and I were sitting at the dining room table, one of the rare times we actually ate dinner there. We heard the metal handles on our china cabinet rattle. We initially thought our dog had bumped it and caused them to rattle because she got up when the sound was made. But apparently, she got up and moved after the noise. We banged on the doors and drawers trying to recreate the sound and we couldn’t do it. I’m taking that to mean the ghost or ghosts in our house are excited to get the season underway.
