What’s the longest book you’ve ever read?

I’m pretty sure I’m telling the truth if I say the longest book I’ve ever read is The Stand by Stephen King. Specifically, this uncut edition:

If I remember correctly, I started reading it in the fall of 2024 and finished it in January of the following year. I think. Or was it last fall and this January that I read it? I can’t remember. I’d have to go back and look at my bookmark with the list of books I’ve read for the year. In any case, at over a thousand pages, it was definitely the longest one I’ve read. But those thousand plus pages went by fast. Such is the power of Stephen King’s storytelling.

The book I’m reading now, Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, is 560 pages, but it’s reading pretty fast too. She’s a good storyteller too.

I have a couple other Stephen King books on my shelf that are quite thick that I’ll read at some point. You’ve just got to be mentally prepared to delve into something so long. I’m not always willing to invest in something that thick. Usually when I do though, I’m not disappointed. The long books grab you in and hold you tight all the way to the end. Makes me want to go home and get back into my current book…

    So good!!

  2. The only Stephen King book I ever read was The Shining. Had seen the movie, so I knew what happened. But I read it when I worked the overnight shift at a hotel. Nothing creepier than finishing the night audit and then taking the paperwork upstairs to the offices that were empty and dark after reading a chapter or two of that book.

    1. Oh that definitely would freak me out too! I’m trying to read his books that I haven’t seen the movie version of so I won’t have spoilers. Although I did buy the novella that has Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption in it because I want to see how they got the movie from a little short story. I’m curious.

      1. That should be good

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
