It’s not Sunday, but there are two things that have already happened…well, one that is going to happen this week that are good. So, nothing says I can’t do a little “Something Good” Tuesday post.

What hasn’t happened yet but is promised to happen is that the summer is going to end in North Carolina tomorrow. I see people on Threads who are already taking selfies in hoodies and debating whether or not to give in and turn on the heat. Meanwhile, here in the south, we were still in the 80s today. Right now there are storms moving across the state and there’s a nice breeze as I sit in the backyard to type this. My 7th grade science students would be able to tell you that means there’s a cold front coming through. I have already planned my outfits for Wednesday and Thursday and they involve my hand knits. The short-sleeved sweater I just finished will make its debut on Thursday. Tomorrow, I’m wearing the dark blue and lime green sweater/shawl I finished this time last year. It’s not my favorite hand knit piece because I made the cuffs on the wrists too tight and they’re a little uncomfortable there. It’s my fault for not binding off loosely. Anyway, I’m wearing that tomorrow over a black cotton dress and some black ankle boots. Picking outfits for work is something that makes me happy these days. I’ve bought a lot of earrings and necklaces and super cheap rings to mix and match and accessorize with. I’m just very happy that this may be the real fall coming through and not a false fall. We get a lot of those here too. It’s been an ungodly hot summer and thanks to global warming, that’s probably the new normal. So I will take the fall temperatures when I can get them, like tomorrow and Thursday when it might not get out of the 60s and it will be rainy and drizzly all day. My kind of weather. I’ll usher it in with my knit sweaters and pumpkin spice cheer. Although, Josh and I started the pumpkin spice a bit early. In fact, Josh made his own pumpkin spice syrup last weekend. The man can make anything.

Speaking of “the man”, the second good thing on this Tuesday is the absolute euphoria I got yesterday…I may be exaggerating on the euphoria…but it made my day…So I’ll say, the pure joy I got when I scored two tickets to the Metallica concert next year. They’re coming to Raleigh in June. Josh has been a fan of theirs his whole life. I have been a fan of Josh for 26 years. I saw last week that tickets were about to go on sale. I mentioned it to him and asked if he would want to go. He was kind of wishy washy about it because he’s not such a fan of their new stuff and thought that’s what they would be playing on this tour. But apparently, according to people who have seen their shows lately, they play a lot of classics. When I told him that, he agreed to let me buy some tickets.

So I signed up to be a member of their fan club so I could get the presale code. The fan club presale started on Monday at 12:00 pm. At 11:45 a.m. I was at my desk at work, on the website, watching the countdown clock. At 12:00 exactly, I got put in a waiting room. That waiting room seemed to take forever and I really needed to hurry up and leave for lunch. With my phone in my hand, I very unsafely got in my car and started driving home. Around the time that I pulled into my neighborhood, my wait was over and I was taken to the website where I could buy the tickets. I pulled over as quickly and as safely as I could and picked two of the best seats that were available. Josh and I both agreed that we didn’t want to be on the field. They’re doing a stadium show and we would really appreciate having the option to sit down. More power to the people who are willing to stand down there the whole time, but that’s not us. I won’t say where exactly our seats are because Josh reads this and I want it to be a surprise when we go. I also won’t say how much I paid for two tickets. In fact, I will never say how much I paid. I told him this is my gift to him.

And it is. I don’t know what he has on his bucket list, but I really feel like seeing Metallica live should be on it. He’s been a fan since their first album. Many times he has explained to me the differences in their style from album to album. He needs to see them. I also need to buy us some good earplugs before we go. When I went to the concert on Saturday, I thought the sound wouldn’t be so bad on my ears since we were outdoors, but it was still pretty rough on my ears. I’m sure a heavy metal band will be even worse.

The concert isn’t until next June, so we have a good nine months to wait. In the meantime, I’ll keep on the lookout for other good things to come along. It seems to me they are a lot easier to find these days.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
