List 30 things that make you happy.
Um, are there supposed to be 30??? Since getting back into blogging, I started making posts that detail one thing that is currently making me happy. After two months, I’m only up to six things. If I really tried to come up with 30, I’m sure I could. There are those things that make me happy every day…my husband coming home from work, my dog coming in from the backyard the first time I call her name, my senior cat not peeing on the bed so I don’t have to change the sheets before I go to bed, and even just in general having a house to live in where I feel safe. The things I have detailed in each of my “things that are making me happy” posts are things that I have noticed that are really making my heart sing lately. Since I’m not keen on actually listing 30, I’m going to just tell about #7. Today, the birds in my backyard are making me happy.
In the corner of our backyard that is in the direct line of sight of the window above the kitchen sink, there is a bird bath and a post that we stuck in the ground on which we hung a bird feeder. The hummingbird feeders are on the other side of the backyard, but this feeder is just a simple tower with four openings where birds can perch and pick at the seeds. We don’t have a dishwasher in our kitchen, so I am frequently standing at the sink washing dishes and looking at the birds from the window. It makes me so happy to see a bird at every opening on the feeder. Many times there are also birds either in the water of the bath next to it, or balanced on the rim of it dipping their beaks into the water. I have even seen birds on the ground doing what appears to be taking a dirt bath. This little corner of the yard has certainly turned into a bird sanctuary, complete with greenery growing along the fence. These feathered friends do go through quite a bit of bird seed and now that the word is out about this dining establishment, I am having to fill the feeder every few days. I’ve gotten to where I almost feel bad if the feeder hangs empty for more than a day, especially if I see birds landing on it and not being able to find anything to eat. My only wish is that there wasn’t a screen over the entirety of the kitchen window so that I could take decent pictures of my “customers” out there.
