Write about your most epic baking or cooking fail.

My husband is a foodie and so my adult cooking “adventures” are never as good as his and I’ve had some misses with things I’ve made. However, my most epic cooking fail came when I was 8 or 9. I had always watched my dad cook those cup o’noodles in the microwave and figured I knew how to do it. For reference, those are the styrofoam cups with Ramen noodles and seasoning in it. You just add water and pop it in the microwave. Well, my parents weren’t home and I convinced my babysitter that I could make my own lunch. I peeled the lid back halfway like I had seen my dad do. I popped it in the microwave for 3 minutes and waited. Apparently, that whole “add water to the fill line” part of the instructions is something I never saw my dad do. So I didn’t do it. There wasn’t exactly a fire…but there were holes in the styrofoam where it had burned somehow. The smell of burnt styrofoam even made it next door to my grandma’s side of the duplex we lived in. That stench had staying power! I never forgot to add water after that! Although, I recently discovered that the cup o’ noodles containers now say “Do Not Microwave” on several places all over the cup. I’m old enough now to be able to say, well back in my day…

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
