Indifference about my job. I have found that I really enjoy my new job when I’m there, but when I come home, I don’t care much about it and that is making me so happy! I’m going on two months of this new job and at first, there was a great deal of excitement about it. As I have been learning what to do and what all my responsibilities are at work, I have had a difficult time at home not thinking about all the new things that are happening at work. And while none of those things that I think about give me anxiety like thoughts of work did at my old job, I have just really wanted to keep the separation between my job and my life at home. I think I’ve finally gotten the hang of that. It’s Saturday and all day I haven’t really thought about work except to realize that I’m not thinking about it. And without the thoughts about it, I have no real feeling about it. It’s a good job, but I’ve settled into enough of a routine with it that it feels like just a job. As it should! I’ve waited a long time to have “just a job”. When I told my grad school cohort friends about my decision not to use the degree I was earning for its intended purpose, i.e. continue being a school principal, I joked with them that after the year I had I would be happy sitting at a desk answering phones all day. I meant it! My new job does see me answering the phone quite a few times throughout the day, however, there’s quite a bit more to it. But none of it comes home with me and the 40 hours a week I get paid to be there is sacred. By that I mean my supervisor reminds me often to take time off my schedule during the week if I need to be at school after 5:00. In fact, next week there are a couple of days that I will need to be at work for something outside of my usual 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule. She made sure to tell me not to work over 40 hours that week and figure out where I can take the time out of my schedule in other areas, i.e. taking a longer lunch break or coming in later in the morning, etc. It’s very refreshing to my recently overworked soul to have a supervisor say that to me and mean it. So here I sit on a Saturday night…I watched several episodes of The Office because I’m watching it for the first time. After I finish this post I’ll probably write in my journal while I wait for SNL to start. This is as much as I’ve thought about work so far this weekend and even tomorrow when it’s getting close to the end of the day, I won’t be thinking about work anymore than to think about making sure I get some laundry done so I can have some clean clothes to wear next week. I won’t dread going to work on Monday because I don’t dislike my job. In fact, I love the people in my department already! But it’s just a job. And I’m 100% here for the lack of emotion I feel about it, good or bad.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
