What could you try for the first time?
Leaving the country. Or really, just visiting the other coast of the United States. I’m deeply fascinated and awe-struck by other places that don’t look like where I live, even though I’ve never seen these other places with my own eyes. One of my knitting friends is from India and after a long few years of cancer treatments, she and her husband were finally able to visit their home country. In doing so, they also stopped in Dubai to do touristy things. I can’t imagine being in a place like that. The opulence that was evident in the pictures she shared was amazing! To think that people live there! Not my lifestyle at all, but I certainly would like to visit just once. Even to stand in a country that’s not my own would be amazing. I was sort of awe struck over the summer when I drove through a handful of New England states I had never been to. I’m a southeast corner of the U.S. gal and have been my whole life. I don’t have a passport and I don’t have summers off anymore, so planning a far-away trip would take some serious planning. But I’d love to do it just once. Preferably more than once, but I’ll take what I can get. And when I get there, I’ll take SO many pictures because I’m one of those obsessive-picture takers when I travel, or really, just going through day to day life. I’m kind of like Sandra Bullock in “While You Were Sleeping”. All she wanted was a stamp in her passport. It may turn out that I don’t like traveling. After all, I am the poster child for staying at home and being a homebody. But I could always try it, just to say I did it. Couldn’t even say where I would go if I only had one trip I could take, but I’d do my best to make the most of it. No witty ending here, just wistfulness at the thought of how sheltered I have been in my part of the world. I’ll get out there one day. I’m nodding as I type this. I promise, I really will get out there.
