This post is a break from my usual deep thoughts, introspection of myself, kind of analysis. It’s Friday night and I am enjoying the hell out of watching cable. My husband and I decided around this time last year that we were tired of paying a stupidly high price for cable AND all the streaming services we subscribed to. So we cut cable and powered through a year of just having streaming platforms for our t.v. viewing. After a year, I impulsively decided to get cable again because it was getting close to the MLB playoffs and I wanted to see my Atlanta Braves play because I refused to pay to subscribe to yet another service that would let me watch sports. I feel like the Braves owe me my connection fee back since they choked not long into their playoff run, which was literally two or three days after I got cable again. Anyway, now that I am back to having cable, I am a silly kind of happy to see the same movies are still being shown on repeat on the same channels. Case in point, Jurassic Park is on. I love this movie. Saw it in the theater when it first came out way back when in the late 1900s (yes, I said it). But after seeing it in these recent years, a part of the movie bothers me in a way that it never did before. At the end of the movie when Lex and Tim are in the control room and Lex is rebooting the computer system to get the park back online, Tim is standing behind her watching her. Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler end up fighting to keep the door to the room closed while a velociraptor attempts to open it and ultimately eat everybody. Dr. Sattler is leaning against the door helping Dr. Grant keep the dinosaur out while simultaneously trying to nudge the shotgun toward her with her foot so they can shoot the dinosaur and end the danger. She can’t reach the gun and there is great tension as this scene plays out. But have you ever noticed that while this is all going on, Tim is literally just standing there jumping up and down with his hands on top of his head? Like, could he not just grab the gun and hand it to Dr. Sattler so she can shoot the raptor while Lex reboots the system and thus saving everyone from being killed? Now that the thought has crossed my mind, I can’t watch that scene the same way now. Tim could have helped out, but nobody asked him to and he didn’t offer. Dude, come on!
