What is your favorite form of physical exercise?

I’m disappointed in the posts I have read that respond to this question! We are all adults and no one’s mind morphed into a 12 year old’s and said their favorite form of physical exercise is sex??? It’s like there’s not an immature person among us! I am, of course, kidding. What does that say about me that my mind immediately went into the gutter for this answer?

My, more mature response is that I enjoy running the most. I’ve posted about it here before and even many of my earlier posts revolved around my efforts to go from an overweight couch potato to a bona fide runner. I absolutely still love running, but my new work schedule makes it hard for me to run after work, which is my preference. Since I live literally less than a mile from where I work, I could easily run in the morning since my commute is disgustingly short—that’s the opinion coming from my husband who has to drive an hour and a half one way to get to where he works. In fact, I did that once…ran in the morning before work that is. It meant that I had to be up and out the door not long after 6 a.m. to run. I wasn’t a fan. I much prefer getting out of bed at 6:30 and then laying on the couch with my dog watching the morning news until about 7:30 when I hustle and shower and head to work.

I can’t really explain why I like running the best. I think I like seeing what I can do and how far and/or fast I can run. I was training for a half marathon in 2020 and had gotten up to 8 miles before Covid shut everything down and my race was cancelled. My New Year’s resolution this year was to run 10 miles at once. A runner friend back then had told me that if I could run 10 miles, I could run the half marathon distance of 13.1. I never got to 10, only that 8 before Covid. I only have about two months left in the year to meet that resolution. I don’t think that’s enough time. I’d like to have chatGPT design a training schedule so that I can effectively work up to 10 miles. I’m just not motivated right now though. My laziness is strong in the morning and my lack of motivation is intense in the afternoon. Back then I started running because I wanted my physical health to improve so that my husband and I could have a baby. Now, my physical health is much improved, although it’s from medication and not exercise. So there’s nothing that’s really pushing me to get out there. And I’m o.k. with that for now. It’s almost time for New Year’s resolutions to be made again. Maybe next year.

I love running too. I actually saw a few posts that said their favorite form of exercise was their husband:)

    1. Oh good! Thank you for letting me know I was definitely not alone in my initial reaction to the question! Lol! This is the best time of year for running with the cooler weather. I really should get back out there.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
