Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?
Without reading what other people have answered, I am almost certain that many people will have said they think about the future more. Something about not being able to change the past so best to think about the future. I don’t disagree. I get that. I have done a lot of thinking about my future in the past several months. However, for me personally, I have also spent a great deal of time thinking about the past. In order for me to heal from the trauma from my past, I have to think about it. I have to tell my therapist about it. I have to reflect on it. I have to acknowledge that what I went through actually happened and I have to accept that the difficulties I have now are because of my past. Many of the things I don’t like about myself now are because of what happened to me. That whole concept of “the body keeps the score” is 100% accurate. My experiences have led me to the person I am at this moment. What I want to change about myself can only be changed by confronting the past. Accepting it. Learning from it. Moving on from it. My dream is for there to be a time in my life when I can reflect on my life and not have such profoundly negative feelings about it. The peace I want for my future depends on it.
