Slow walking through Walmart looking at random things after work, or any afternoon really.

I got to do that today. It was my turn for “flex Friday”. That’s where we come in a half hour early every day during the week, skip our lunch break on Friday, and then leave at 1:30 instead of 5:00. We don’t do it every week. We take turns so our department isn’t completely empty on any given Friday.

This week was my turn. There were a few things I needed from the store so I went home after work to let the dogs out, then I headed to Walmart. I love when there are things I need from both sides of the store. I took my time getting the things on my list from whatever the side is called that has the medicine and toothpaste and stuff.

Instead of taking a direct route over to the grocery side, I stopped and looked at throw pillows. I eventually picked two for the living room, not originally on the list. Then I got several bags of Valentine’s candy for a work event next week. Some Starburst jellybeans and Cadbury Crème eggs also made it into the cart.

I won’t go into detail about the other random things that went into my cart that weren’t on the list. This could get really dull if I did. But my point is, wandering around the store and looking at stuff when I’m not rushed makes me happy. I’m grateful that I am able to throw miscellaneous items into my cart. I’ve always been someone who likes “stuff”. I’m not necessarily proud of that. It is after all just “stuff” that I ultimately can’t take with me at the end. But it makes me happy while I’m here.

  1. My husband does virtually all of our shopping but I do enjoy the occasional trip to Walmart. I do more browsing than buying but I enjoy seeing what is out there. Except, when they put Christmas decor out in September or school supplies in July.

    1. Yes! That whole Christmas in September thing is maddening! Especially since we’re late decorators and by the time we realize we need something else like another stand of lights, they’ve already started clearancing Christmas stuff and so we can’t find anything!

      1. I feel for kids (and their parents) who never get a break from one holiday hype to the next.

      2. That’s a good point!

  2. Yes to anything Cadbury, but I do love the eggs, especially the caramel ones.

    1. Never tried the caramel ones. And I also read that there’s a difference in quality between the American made Cadbury eggs and authentic, made in England ones.

      1. I hear that too. But until I can get over to the other side of the pond I will just have to enjoy the anerican version

  3. The « Flex Friday » sounds like pure joy! And gives room to actually do something. I’ve noticed that when I go to the store without a list I just end up buying everything else except for what I had in mind to buy. I love love shopping or even just adding and removing stuff from my cart online😆

    1. Yes! Trips to Target are especially bad for me when it comes to getting what I originally went in for!

She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
