You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?
I would love to go on a cross-country trip! I have never been off the east coast and really feel like I’ve got a case of wanderlust coming on. Especially now that I am not restricted to two months in the summer for time off to travel. In fact, the fall is probably the best time for me to travel since June and July are going to be crazy busy for me at work.
With that said, how I would go across the country depends on my destination, why I’m going and how long I have to get there. If I have a short amount of time, I’ll fly. Obviously, it’s quicker and if my goal is to spend as much time as possible at my destination, then that’s how I’ll go.
Sometimes, however, the journey is just as important as the destination. Years ago, my husband and I took a trip to upstate New York. He wanted to tour some of the breweries around the Cooperstown area. We drove straight up there, but on the way back, we did some sightseeing. We stopped in Gettysburg and toured the battlefield. Further down we spent the night in Washington, D.C. and toured some of the monuments there. It took us longer to get home but it was so fun stopping along the way. In fact, when I was on a solo trip recently, driving from Kentucky northeast across Ohio to Cleveland, I stopped in Mansfield because I saw a billboard saying that was where the prison is that they filmed the movie, “The Shawshank Redemption”. There was no question that I was going to stop and tour the place!
If I’m going to go across the country, I want to see as much as possible because I’ve never been there. All of that is going to be brand new for me. Not only that, but I just love road trips, whether solo or with my husband. I love time in the car! If I’m with my husband, we chat, listen to music and podcasts, etc. If we’re on a fairly straight interstate, I can even knit or crochet while he drives. If I’m by myself, I also listen to music, particularly the Hamilton soundtrack at least once since that’s practically like watching a movie while you drive.
All of this talk of travel makes me think it’s time to start giving serious thought to where we’ll go on our vacation this year. There are so many possibilities! I do know for sure though, where ever we go, I want us to drive!
