Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?

I think the last time this question came up, I did a nice little exploration of my favorite quote, “Don’t analyze it, just enjoy it.” That was from the 80s sitcom, “Life Goes On” and it’s what Patti LuPone said to her daughter when she was being all teen angst-y about something that was going on.

While I still absolutely live by that quote and the whole idea of just enjoying things rather than over-analyzing, as I tend to do, I am a follower of a much simpler quote. This quote is universally shared and appreciated by I’m sure millions of people. In fact, I would put money on the fact that millions of people use this quote each and every day. And that quote is, “F*** it.” Sometimes I add something to the end. Like, “F*** it, I’m doing it anyway.” Or, “F*** it, I’m not doing that.”

Honestly, it really is a whole attitude that I’ve had lately. I think of it often when I’m going through my work day and looking at things I need to do or should be doing. I think of it when I’m at home and trying to decide what I want to do or if I really need to fold one more basket of clothes. The answer, by the way, is always, yes, I need to fold one more basket. However, am I going to do it? No. Which explains why our dining room table is covered with clean laundry from the past two weeks, just sitting in their baskets of shame. See? The “f*** it” mentality in action. I’m sitting out back writing this post because when I got home from work, I said, “f*** it”, I’m going to sit outside for a while before I fold clothes.

Seriously, I live by that phrase now. It’s similar to the “Just do it” Nike slogan that motivated me in the past. That one got me to put my running shoes on in the afternoon and run. Or other productive things. I am quite the opposite now. I have used up all that good motivation to be productive while I was a teacher and had the desire to do all the things. Now? Not so much. And that’s not a bad thing. It really just shows how I have changed my lifestyle lately. I’m much more laid back now. And thank God! It was about time!

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
