What are you passionate about?

I think for my answer today, I’m going to make you guess. I have told you about my passion for writing, knitting/crocheting, loud music from my “inspirational playlist”, mental health awareness, all the things. But there’s one more. Look at these pictures and see if you can tell me what my passion is.

These pictures are all of my tv while the same local news was on. Did you figure it out? Why did I take these pictures? Hint: I was an English teacher in my past life.

Cue the Jeopardy theme…

Give up? The answer is, each of those pictures shows a spelling or grammar mistake in the text they displayed on the screen. These are just from this past year. I have pictures throughout the last few years. They have increased in frequency lately. To the point that when I was looking for a job, I was tempted to message them these pictures and ask them if I could work for them either proofreading or being the person who puts those titles on there.

I am passionate about correct spelling and grammar, lol! Also, please don’t come at me with any mistakes here! I post and then go back and proofread and often catch my mistakes then.

I’m not obnoxious about grammar in my every day life, but this news channel, though my favorite, drives me batty because the mistakes are so blatant and displayed for the entire viewing area to see! To be fair, I’m not obnoxious with these people either. Only one time I submitted corrections and it was for a written story they posted on their website that was so full of mistakes it was painful to read. They had a thing to click on for suggesting edits. And I used it!

One last fun fact…my tattoo artist has a trophy in his area for some big award he won. Something “mechanical” though I don’t know what that means in the tattoo world. The trophy, however, had the word “mecanical”. I didn’t say anything during my first session. I couldn’t ignore it the second time though. The artist said I was the first person to point it out. He knew it was misspelled, apparently nobody else did. I kind of thought the misspelling was the way the word was spelled when it relates to tattoos. Apparently not.

Don’t worry, I will not be judgmental on any of your posts. I promise.

  1. Thank you for not judging posts lol. I just write it like I speak it sometimes. My sister is also all about the grammar, she was a teacher too.

What does drive me crazy are internet articles that bury the lead. You have to go down 4 paragraphs or more to find out what the headline is talking about. I hate that.

    1. Yes! Or click bait in general! Where they post the story except for the bottom half and you click on it then can’t find it! That’s why I’ve gotten into reading comments. Usually someone will have done the work and posted what the rest of it is. Not all heroes wear capes. 🤣

I clocked all the errors too. I didn’t even think to mention my passion for proper use of language. I think it’s the curse of English teachers

    1. Yes! I just notice them super fast! To be fair, I’m sure some of them are just typos. I’m guessing they’ve gotta be quick about getting stuff up on the screen. But there was one that was up during a story about some speech our governor did and they left out the first ‘r’ in governor! That’s not a typo. That’s a high school kid they’re paying minimum wage behind the scenes, lol!

I seriously wish I could be the subtitle writer for TV shows. It just hurts sometimes lol I know sometimes it’s just typos, but it’s literally your job.

      2. Right?! That’s what I’m saying!

  3. I would have loved to be an English teacher. What an honorable profession to mold our youth.

    1. It was definitely a very meaningful experience!

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
