The baseball game we went to today was fun! There was a true Sandlot moment when the city shot off their fireworks display sometime around the 6th inning. The stadium had their own show planned for after the game. But there the fireworks were, in the middle of the game, in true Sandlot fashion. The music person even played the same song from the movie when the teams switched in the middle of the inning. If you’ve seen the movie as many times as I have, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I know those players tonight were desperately trying to stay focused.
The players got their chance to watch the fireworks after the game though. It was sweet seeing them all sitting along the first base line with their necks tilted back.
I think my favorite part though, was when they played my favorite scene from the movie Independence Day.
It was neat having live people cheer at the same time the crowd in the movie cheered. It’s really not Independence Day until President Whitmore says it is. Again, if you’ve seen the movie, you know.
All in all, it was a fun evening. Josh and I were both impressed by the fireworks show after the game. Much better than the one the city tried to distract the players with in the middle of it.
And the whole thing was a good distraction for me and my anxiety. It’s still there a little bit, but it’s lessened. Hopefully the joy and nostalgia from the game will work its magic and escort it out so I can enjoy the rest of my weekend.
