What could you let go of, for the sake of harmony?
This question is asking about me personally and what I could let go of. But honestly, I think all of us could let go of a few things. Gesturing around at the state of the world (my country especially included), I think we could all let go of, #1 our judgements of others. Judging others is really easy to do and it’s not necessarily always a bad thing, or at least doesn’t always lead to negative outcomes. My husband judges the height of our neighbors’ grass all the time when we drive down the road.
It’s when those judgements turn into things like hate speech and hate crimes. So much of the conflict in the world, I think, is because people judge and aren’t tolerant when they deem someone or a group of people as unworthy of respect. Violence breeds from that. My husband has never (and would never) do something violent to our neighbors because he disapproves of their yard. Apples and oranges there, sure, but you get the idea.
Wasn’t there a Coke commercial back in the day about teaching the world to sing and living in perfect harmony or something? Hippie-ish as it was, I’m sure, it’s not wrong. If we just stop judging others, there would be more harmony.
If this post comes around again, which we all know it will, I’ll think of something that I could give up so that I could live in my own personal harmony. I think social media might factor into my next answer.
