Yesterday, the prompt asked what makes us lose track of time. I wrote about getting lost in a good book, talking to my sister, and writing. This afternoon was the perfect example of all three of those things coming together to make me lose track of two and a half hours.

I had lunch with a lady that I used to work with. If you’ve been following along, she’s “Alice’s” mom. She has gone from being the parent of a student, to a coworker, to a teacher that I supervised, but best of all, she’s now a friend.

We talked about books, and my writing ambitions, and the importance of people sharing their stories. We both agreed that everyone has one. People need to know these stories. You never know who will be touched, moved, inspired, righteously angered, relieved, etc. by your story.

I learned more about her and she about me. We share so many of the same ideas, values, and beliefs.

Our lunch date started at 2:00, and by the time we took a breath and acknowledged our surroundings and realized that we weren’t the only two people there engrossed in conversation, it was 4:30.

We agreed that we will be doing this again. If you’re reading this, thank you my friend for your encouragement and for listening without judgement. Thank you for sharing your views. It’s beautiful to share thoughts with someone knowing we think similarly.

Until then…this made me think of you.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
