If you won two free plane tickets, where would you go?

I don’t travel much. My husband and I are just homebodies. For a while, I could only travel in the summer when I was on break, and now my husband’s job makes it so that it’s hard to take time off without being interrupted by calls and texts on his work phone. I’ve never been off the east coast of the U.S.

But I do want to travel. And if I had those two free plane tickets, I would go somewhere you couldn’t get to by car. That means I wouldn’t go anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Mexico (except maybe Hawaii). You can get to those places by car, and for sure it would be a pretty epic and fun road trip. So I don’t want to waste plane tickets just by going to the other side of the country.

I want to cross a large body of water to get where I’m going. I’ve always wanted to go to Europe. So many touristy places to see. I’d go to Italy for the food and to visit the Vatican. I’d go to England to see Stonehenge and eat a traditional English breakfast. I’d go to Germany for Oktoberfest, even though I don’t like beer.

Despite all the places I want to visit in Europe, I got to thinking about other continents. I always think of Europe first. Why don’t I ever want to pick somewhere in Asia or Africa? No offense Australia, but I’m staying away. See my post about the big honkin’ spiders y’all have down there.

So I got to thinking about Africa for example. The best friend I mentioned before (from my post about our Monopoly Wars) went to South Africa on a trip because she had always wanted to go on a safari. So she did. That would be fun. But also, I think if I went somewhere where there wasn’t popular tourist spots (can’t think of any in Africa except in Egypt where the pyramids are), I would want to pick a random place and just go. I’d pick a little town and spend a few days doing random every day things. Eat at local restaurants, visit a few stores, and generally just interact with the people doing things that they do. It would be less about seeing the sights and more about experiencing another culture in a country far away from my own.

I think everybody needs to travel. I really am a homebody, and sometimes much prefer being at home in my own crap city (really, this city is pretty bad), but we live in such a big world. Though, not big compared to the rest of the universe. We should experience something that’s not familiar once in a while. Our world is big, but we also share it with so many other people. I think it would be so neat to go somewhere far away and see people that we share this blue marble with. It’s amazing how different we all are based on where we live, yet we all live on the same planet. Pretty fascinating really. Do you agree?

I absolutely agree ! All anyone needs to do is speak to Sophia , the scarediest cat of my heard . She went to Guatemala with Duke to open a clinic and has not stopped talking about it !! Oz granted her courage and she is better for it !!!

    1. I didn’t know she was the scared one! Look at her doing big, brave things! Yay for her! But also, I really should probably start with getting a passport…

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
