How would you describe yourself to someone?

“Just a woman in my 40s figuring out what kind of person I really am. I’m also a tattooed blue dot trauma survivor who writes and likes my music loud.”

I cheated. This is what I have posted about myself at the top of my bio page on Threads. They don’t give you a lot of space to really describe yourself so I tried to be as concise as I could. I think right now, these two sentences sum me up perfectly. The blue dot part is because a lot of people describe their political beliefs by saying they’re a blue dot in a red state. Meaning, just because I live in a state that was a certain color during the last election due to the majority vote, I am not aligned with that same political party. Apparently, that’s important for people to know on social media.

I like the word ‘tattooed’ because while I wouldn’t consider myself heavily tattooed, I’m certainly not done getting inked. The blue flowers I just finished getting are big, bold, and I love them. Now I want more. I’ve already got ideas for the next tattoos I’ll get.

Also, throwing in there that I write is super important. Not just because that’s literally what I do everyday, but also because that’s how I’ve been using my voice lately. And the fact that I’m a trauma survivor means that my voice is a tool to guide me on this journey of figuring out who I am. I really love using it now. It helps. It heals.

Maybe at some point down the road I’ll add or delete something from my short bio. For now though, it’s the most accurate way to describe me.

P.S. If you want to follow me on Threads, I’m orangeturtle22 on there. Sometimes I post deep, meaningful things. Sometimes I post about being leery of people who knock on my door instead of ringing the bell with the camera. It’s a weird balance.

  1. Being a weird balance is what makes life interesting. I never heard the blue dot thing before. Maybe that’s because I don’t pay attention to those things.

    1. Apparently the dot thing is serious! I only put that there because some people absolutely will not engage with anybody if they’re not blue and some have asked me about it before responding to me. It’s crazy! In the grand scheme of things, it’s not that important, at least to me, and honestly, that’s their problem if they don’t want to engage with me if they don’t know my political leaning, but, it is accurate at least.

  2. I hear you. It is so sad though and pathetic. I am talking about the mass mentality, not you. I get why you put it there. Everyone acting like a bunch of middle school bullies about it.

    1. It really is sad! While I am absolutely not fond of what’s happening right now, I am not to the point where I won’t engage with someone, or cut them from my life, simply because they voted for this. Those people are definitely at that point!

      1. I get you on that.

  3. Groupthink breeds cruelty.

    1. I’m not sure what you mean, but I certainly agree that mob mentality isn’t always good.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
