Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.

There is no need to scour for this story. It’s on the news every day. Bill Belichick has started practicing with the UNC football team. The hunt for a quarterback is on! That last sentence is full of sarcasm when I say it in my head. College sports are huge in North Carolina. We have a whole bunch of schools in the UNC system. So the fact that college football is about to start is making the news, as usual.

Bill Belichick used to be the coach for the New England Patriots. He’s that coach. And now this will be his first year coaching college ball, that I know of. So obviously the college football fans here have been losing their minds with excitement since it was announced last year that he was the new coach. Well, UNC fans are losing their minds with excitement anyway. Fans of other teams, like my husband and me, are losing our minds with boredom and disinterest.

We’re NC State fans because that’s where my husband went to school. I root for his team because up until about 10 years ago, my alma mater was too small to have a football team. We have one now but they don’t play in the same field/division/whatever-it’s-called as the bigger schools.

So the fact that every detail about what Bill Belichick is doing at UNC at this exact moment makes the news every day is boring. We roll our eyes and turn the channel when they start their nightly swooning over him. I’ll conclude by simply saying, please, for the love of puppies and kittens, please let NC State beat them this year. That rivalry game is always the last one of the season. A win this year (for us) would soothe our souls after all this hero worshipping.

  1. That is big news, but I would also be rolling my eyes every time it came on the news. And I hope you win this year.

    1. Thank you! We know nothing about our team this year and how good they might be because you know, they only talk about that other team 🤣

      1. I hear that
