How do you plan your goals?

I think the question today is worded poorly. I don’t plan my goals. Sometimes I just think of something I want to do. If I think about it enough times, I’ll eventually decide to make it a goal.

Now, if the question asked, how do I plan to achieve my goals, the answer would be different. Actually, not much different. I can only think of maybe one or two times when I made a plan and actually stuck to it long enough to achieve my goal. Wait! No I didn’t. And it was Covid’s fault.

In 2020, when I was hardcore into running, I signed up for a half marathon. I found a running plan online for training for one. I modified it to fit the days that would fit best in my schedule for running. I stuck to that bad boy religiously! But then covid hit and the race was cancelled. I never finished the plan or reached my goal. I’ll go back to it one day. I really enjoyed running and would like to get back to it at some point.

The other goal of mine didn’t involve plans of my own making. When I was going for my masters degree, and planning to become a principal, the course load and schedule was obviously determined by the school. The details of me becoming the principal of the school where I was definitely weren’t my creation. My “mentor” orchestrated that disaster.

Even when I got my bachelors degree. I had a plan for reaching my goal. Then my mental health got to the point where I couldn’t continue on the path I was on. I had to hit pause and change my timeline so I could heal.

With all of that said, I don’t think things ever truly go to the plan I create when I have a goal in mind. And that’s ok. If it’s a goal that I’m serious about, I’ll reach it eventually. I have definitely learned that God’s timing is very rarely my own. It’s like the quote I heard one time, we plan and God laughs. Basically, if it’s meant to happen, it’ll happen.

  1. Yeah, today was a weird one. Did they mean how do you plan out your goals to achieve them like a step by step? I don’t know. Good answer though.

    1. Thanks! Definitely could have been worded better.

  2. And God has an extremely wild sense of humor. 😆😂🤣

    1. Doesn’t He though?! 🤣

      1. One hundred percent! 🤣😆😂

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
