The Katy Perry concert was everything I needed it to be. Originally, that was going to be my entire post, along with a video I took of her singing “Roar”, which is the one song that compelled me to buy the tickets back in March.
But, I’ll say a little more. It was absolutely amazing! Our seats were fabulous! We had a better view than the people on the floor I think. Which, to be honest, I don’t think I would have wanted to be on the floor. I’m old, I was grateful to be able to sit down during set changes.
My ears were clogged by the end of the show. It took a while for it to not sound like I was underwater. Made me understand why the event staff on the floor wore those huge headphones that people wear at shooting ranges. My throat is a little sore today and I’m surprised I still have a voice. There was much cheering and singing as loud as I could.
While I did go with a friend, I made a new friend on the other side of me. He and his partner were there with some girlfriends. After the opening act, he turned to me and asked if I was excited. Somehow that one question turned into us sharing our life stories while we waited for the main show to start. He knew what songs I came to hear. She sang them at the end, but at one point in the middle, she assured us she would sing “Roar”. When she said that, my new friend turned to me and smiled. “Rise” was the first of my three songs she sang. When it started, I gasped, put my hand on his shoulder and then he held his hand out so we could hold hands during it. I don’t know his name. But I know he lives in Charlotte and when I said my prayers before falling asleep when I got home, I prayed for his dad to be healed from his cancer. I’m telling you, life stories. We shared them.
I came home with butterfly confetti in my purse and a happy heart. Last night, while an arena filled with thousands of people sang along with Katy Perry to the songs that have healed our souls—because I’m sure I’m not the only one who was so deeply touched by her songs—all was right with the world.
