What do you enjoy most about writing?
There are two things that I really enjoy about writing. I can’t decide which one is better than the other. The first is all about the process. Cue the guy from the A-team who always said he loves when a plan comes together.
I love when I have an idea for something to write and I am able to get the words out in a way that feels true to the point I’m trying to make. Words are just fun to play around with. You get a delightful kind of satisfied feeling when you get the perfect combination, and a really good, strong ending. At least I do anyway.
The other thing about writing that is wonderful, is the readers. I write because I want people to feel something by my words. Even if it’s just to know that they’re not alone. Someone else has had their same thoughts or experiences. And sometimes, I just want people to enjoy my writing. Whatever “enjoy” means to them. Did they think it was funny? Did I make a good point? Did it remind them of something from their life? I might never know what people think of my writing. Certainly Stephen King doesn’t know what every one of his fans think. And I don’t have a Stephen King sized audience yet, but I do have the lovely WordPress community. I also have random people on Threads who have started reading my posts and give me wonderful feedback like this:
Writing is just fun. I think of those multiple intelligences I learned about when I was in “teacher school”. Good ol’ Howard Gardner and his theory that there are 9 intelligences people can have. Basically, those are the areas people are strongest in. I’m not musical or kinesthetic. But I’m definitely linguistic, which he describes as “word smart”. It’s just my thing. I enjoy it.
