Do you see yourself as a leader?

The question back in May, I believe, asked if we were a leader or a follower. My response to that is here:

But do you want to?

With a few more months in my pocket since reflecting on the leader in me, I sort of see myself as a leader. Technically, I am one given my position where I work. But I like to think that I’m a leader outside of that too. I see myself more leading the way. Leaders encourage, inspire, and motivate. At least good ones should. I hope that by my social media presence I can do those things. Since I’m all about using my voice, I hope that what I say can do all those things. Maybe the fact that I share about things not always talked about (mental health, miscarriages, etc) it will encourage others to do the same. Things need to be talked about. Many of the things we don’t openly discuss lead to a deep sense of loneliness because we aren’t aware that other people are struggling with the same things because they’re not talked about! Let’s talk about things!

Leaders want people to follow their example. Hopefully the example I’m setting by being open and honest with my stories is an example others will want to follow.

My following is small now, but it is growing authentically as I continue to share what matters to me. Leaders don’t need a huge crowd behind them though. Just a few people who believe in them.

With that said, thank you to those who believe in me. Consistency is key with any good leader. So I will continue to share what’s important, or as people say now, “speak my truth”.

I guess being a leader isn’t so bad after all.

  1. Doing great so far. Keep doing what you’re doing, your tribe is forming.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
