Come on WordPress, let’s get with some new prompts. This is another verbatim repeat. Last year I wrote about the Post Secret website (postsecret.com) and To Write Love On Her Arms twloha.com. Both great websites related to bringing awareness and support to people with mental health issues and also for helping people connect and feel less alone in their lives.
Since last year, I haven’t really branched out and found other websites. I use Submittable quite a bit now because I’m trying to get some short pieces of mine published. I also am quite active on Instagram (instagram.com/orangeturtle22) and Threads (threads.com/@orangeturtle22) because I read that agents and publishers want to see that you have a sizeable following before they agree to publish your work. I read that it’s more important for a non-fiction writer to have a large platform than a fiction writer. Go figure. I guess with fiction it’s more about how good your story is vs. nonfiction where it’s more about you as a person.
Since my goal is to be a published writer, I’m putting in the work to build that platform. But you know, honestly, I’m enjoying the process! I have really enjoyed engaging with people on Threads. And I’ve gotten great feedback! The other day, someone said, and I quote, “You have the BEST kind of feed…a little bit of everything! Like looking in your mind!” That meant a lot to me because that really is my mind. I think about a lot of random different things all the time.
I’m not as successful building my Instagram following. I’m better with words. Instagram is all about pictures and videos. Maybe at some point I can figure out a way to speak my thoughts in a way that would make people want to engage with videos of those thoughts. We’ll see.
In the meantime, give me a follow on either of those if you would like to see more of my random, inner thoughts. I’d love to engage with you over there.
