Today, Josh had his first colonoscopy. A very routine procedure, and yet, when they called me back after he was done, I was nervous. I have never seen him in the hospital before. I mean, this wasn’t a hospital, it was the second floor of his gastroenterologist’s office. But I was still a little anxious when they pulled the curtain back on the recovery area where he had been wheeled. I worry about him and his health. He worries about himself and his health.

When I saw him, it was very strange. He was hooked to a heart monitor and had the remains of an i.v. in his arm. He was laying on his side in the gown and obviously, he was also very groggy.

But that’s when the nervousness wore off and the hilarity began. Not to embarrass him, because I know he reads this, but let me just say, his love of UFO podcasts made it’s way into the dialogue he had with me and his nurse. My shy, introverted, anti-social husband became a stand-up comic right there in the recovery room. Of course, he has no memory whatsoever of what he said. I have delighted in telling him what transpired.

He proclaimed his love of propofol throughout the rest of the day. When they say a colonoscopy is the best nap you’ll ever have, they mean it! He told me how refreshed he felt after it. He said they should sell little bottles of it. I reminded him Michael Jackson had the same sentiment about it and that’s what ultimately killed him.

Now that the day is winding down, I’m cooking dinner because he can finally eat again. The propofol is long gone from his system and what remains is a clean colon. Nothing to see here. The doctor even complimented him on how well he prepped. No need to come back until 10 years have gone by.

I’m hopeful that this will be the last time until that 10 years is up that I see him laying in a hospital bed hooked up to a machine, even if it was just monitoring his blood pressure.

  1. Glad all went well. I always wondered if Josh reads this. Neil skims it when he gets the email, but doesn’t respond. Lol I made him sign up the first day.

    1. He was one of my first subscribers. He doesn’t ever really give me feedback but I asked him the other day if he still reads it and he said he does.

      1. What a good husband 🙂

      2. He absolutely is!

  2. I’m glad everything went well! 🙏🏽 I did the cologuard test, but I’m going to go ahead and do the colonoscopy test because this summer i found out my dad had colon cancer when was 65.

Was the prep the day before the procedure hard for your husband?

    1. We have two of those Cologuard boxes somewhere in our house. He kept meaning to do them because his doctor gave him the option of that test or a colonoscopy. He had to start seeing a gastroenterologist recently so he had no choice but to do the colonoscopy.

I don’t think the prep was hard, per say, it was a bunch of Gatorade with a whole bunch of Miralax mixed in and he had to chug certain amounts at certain time intervals. Plus, take like, half a box of Dulcolax. He said the worst parts were the cramping and nausea. And of course, not being able to eat all day. He’s going to sleep good tonight. We both are because he had to get up at midnight and do some intervals of chugging the Miralax solution according to the doctor’s instructions.

      1. Thank you for sharing this! Oh man, that sounds rough, but I’m glad it’s all over with for him now. And the important thing is he had good results! 🙏🏽
