Two things happened today that are unrelated to each other but are interesting and worth mentioning.

I got the job I’m in now because my good friend who I used to work with at the place before this jumped ship and got a job at the place associated with where I work. She encouraged me to apply. So I did, and got the job. Now, in her area, there is a job opening for a Director of Admissions. I haven’t thought about it other than to recommend my former administrative assistant apply for it. She doesn’t think it’s in her skills wheelhouse so the job is still open. My friend texted me yesterday and basically asked me to apply for it. I dismissed that thought because I really enjoy my job. I have a great boss.

But then today, for some reason, I got to thinking about that other job. I looked at the job description and, I can probably do everything on that list. But, it would mean having to make decisions again and having a LOT of responsibilities and things to do. The pay would be more though. And I would get to work in the same department as my friend. I actually debated this. I’d hate to leave my current boss and our little team and we’re in a very busy time with what we do. It’d put them in a bind if I left now. But still, I thought about it.

And then someone came into my coworker’s and my work area this afternoon and questioned us on a decision we had made. She wasn’t accusing us, she was just trying to get clarity on it. And that’s when my mind was made up. I’m staying where I am, for the simple fact that decisions like the one we were being questioned for is something we made with the guidance of my boss. I was doing what I was told. If someone doesn’t like it, her office is right over there.

While I do sometimes miss having more work to do and more responsibilities, I don’t miss them enough to apply for a job where I would have an exponentially larger number of them. I’ll continue my stress-free existence at this job thank you very much.

And then the second thing that happened, which was actually the first thing in the overall timeline of today. I got a flu shot. Because I had to. Where I work, we’re required to get them. So I got one at the first “flu fair” they had this season. I’ve never had a flu shot in my entire life which is surprising, and very stupid of me because I worked around kids for 19 years. If anybody should have gotten a flu shot every year, it should have been me. I did get the flu a few times. I didn’t get the shot for any particular reason. I’m not an anti-vaxxer. I got the Covid vaccine and several of its boosters after the initial shot. I just didn’t get the flu shot because I was lazy. And did I mention stupid?

So I got it today. Made it through the day with no side effects from it. No sore arm, no fatigue. That is, until I got home a little while ago. Now I just feel like laying on the couch or my bed like the lady in that famous painting. You know the one:

This is called “Young Woman on her Death Bed”. I don’t feel that bad, but I surely don’t feel like doing anything tonight. So I won’t. Happy Friday Eve.

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
