Who are your current most favorite people?

I’m going to be very self-centered and honest with my answer. Who are my current most favorite people? Me. And my husband. Honorable mention goes to my supervisor who is incredibly understanding about the fact that I am actively applying for other jobs because working conditions are becoming stupid at work. Not because of her. But because of things above her level of supervision.

But my husband and me being my current favorite actually ties into this week’s Music/Movie Monday selection. He and I were driving home from dinner last night and the song “Broken Wings” by Mr. Mister came on. It was one of my favorite songs when I was kid. A kid in the 80s. Everybody shut up when it came on the radio in the car.

But you know, I honestly never really paid much attention to the lyrics. When I did tonight, this line from the chorus caught my ear: “Take these broken wings and learn to fly again”. I mean, that’s pretty much repeated throughout the entire song. It’s actually pretty accurate for what I’ve done this year though. And last year too. But it’s coming up on a full year of learning to fly again. Truthfully, learning to fly for the first time I think. And oh how those wings were broken! So, I’m loving this new me. I think I’ve made that pretty clear in my posts this year.

I’m throwing my husband in there too because, well, I love him. But also because he’s been with me every single day and has seen this process of me learning to fly. And he hasn’t judged. He hasn’t criticized. At least not out loud. I’m almost certain he’s ready for me to be done with getting tattoos, but that’s not going to be for a while. He has let me do what I have felt I needed to do. I say “let”. It’s not that I need his permission, but in a committed relationship, you do have to consider the other person as much as you consider yourself.

So, here’s to us. My two favorite people right now.

As a footnote, I can’t write a post about favorite songs from the 80s without mentioning Starship. They wrote a whole song about me. Actually not me, I’m Sarah. They wrote a song about Sara. There’s a difference! The Sara they sang about had “storms brewing in her eyes” and honestly, that’s pretty accurate for me this year too. They called it “storms”, I call it perimenopausal rage…whose name is Betty. So really, my favorite “people” are me, my husband, and Betty. Hopefully Betty will go on her own vacation this week and I won’t have to deal with her during my three work days and two holidays. We’ll see how it goes.

  1. First of all, good for you. You do what you need to do for you with the job front.

Second of all, I almost wrote a whole post about me being my favorite person…next time, lol

And finally, thanks now Sara will be in my head all day 🤪

    1. Thanks! I’ve learned enough from the past to know I’m not going to put up with much if I don’t have to!

Middle-aged Maverick is indeed middle-aged and she’s proud of it. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze many of the things she encounters in her life, as evidenced in many of her posts. She knows how to drive a stick-shift car, prefers Coke over Pepsi, and spent many of her adolescent years being obsessed with Jim Carrey.
